| CODE of DRESS The Board and Administration wish to maintain the position that the primary focus of Gateway School is to educate. It is the responsibility of each student and his/her parents/guardians to maintain a fashion of dress selected for Gateway School which reflects good taste and a style appropriate for a school day. Students are expected to take pride in their appearance and accept the responsibility of complying with the following guidelines. Suggested style providers include: JC Penney, Academy, Old Navy, Land’s End, Walmart, etc. **CLEAN, NEAT CLOTHING IS REQUIRED (WRINKLE FREE)** No frayed edges, holes, tears, or stains on any clothing. Clothing must be clean and pressed. GROOMING IS REQUIRED. Hair must be clean, brushed, and worn out of eyes. Natural hair color ranges –no blue, green, purple, etc. or extreme hairstyles. PANTS/BELTS Khaki Pants Pants must be worn at the waist. No extremely tight or baggy pants. No undergarments showing. Shirts/Blouses may be tucked or untucked at waist. Shirts that are tucked at the waist will require students to wear a brown or black belt. Untucked shirts will not hang below the length of the wrist of arms extended while standing upright. SHORTS/SKIRTS/SKORTS Khaki and Plaid Skirts No extremely tight or baggy shorts. No undergarments showing. Shorts, skirts, skorts – not more than 4 inches above middle of knee. SHIRTS/BLOUSES Polo style shirt (short or long sleeves) Burgundy/ Maroon, Hunter Green or Navy. No Red. Shirts/blouses must be buttoned and can be tucked or untucked. No undergarments showing. *School uniform attire is required for Field Trips. SHOES No crocs, flip flops, thongs, beach shoes, roller (tennis) shoes, or steel-toed work boots. ACCESSORIES For winter weather, additional items will include sweaters, sweatshirts and jackets. (Burgundy/maroon, hunter green, or navy) All jackets must be part of uniform attire. Students will not wear hats in the building. The following items are permissible: 1 pair of earrings 1 ring for each hand 1 bracelet (no sweat bands, etc.) 1 necklace 1 watch Above jewelry items must not have any reference to any offensive material, alcohol, or drug use. The policy remains under the discretion of the Executive Director. No visible Body Piercing (with exception of ears) No visible Body Tattoos No Motorcycle Biker Wallets with Chains Clothing may be monogrammed – Optional/ Not Required White monogram on burgundy/maroon, green, or navy sweater or jacket. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Students who participate in physical education classes will be required to purchase selected clothing in which they will suit out for class. Each student is responsible for his/her clothing. Sweats for winter weather have been selected also. Solid navy blue athletic shorts with solid grey t-shirt. CASUAL DRESS DAY Please refer to the Student Council’s guidelines in the student handbook. **STUDENTS MUST BE IN COMPLIANCE TO ATTEND CLASSES DRESS CODE VIOLATIONS Students who are not in compliance are required to change to dress code in order to attend classes. Please understand that this is a personal and family responsibility. |
